I’ve found the best way to describe my skills is to compare them to building a house. The first step is building a solid foundation, or in graphic design terms, a corporate identity with supplementary branding. I identify the core needs of a business and create a logo and supplementary assets for that specific market. With nine years of freelance and in-house design experience, this step is where my skills truly shine. I have worked with small non-profits and local entrepreneurs looking to get their ideas off the ground, and with large corporate entities looking for a fresh rebrand. My skills include market research, logo design, logo standards and collateral design. Whether it’s a business, a new product, or an event, I’m excited to bring your corporate identity to new heights!
The second step in building a house is to lay out its structure. This is where sales and marketing come into play as the building blocks of any business. Building on the brand foundation, my creativity merges with my analytical side to create unique and memorable solutions for print, digital, and live spaces. I have experience creating marketing campaigns for small and large corporate identities by designing and managing brochures, flyers, presentations, posters, postcards, pins, social media ads, email banners, tradeshow assets, swag, and mascots.
Now that we have a solid foundation and basic structure, it’s time to position each room. Or to a graphic designer, time to start designing infographics. This step requires analysis of a business’s overall and specific goals, and turning that information into easily comprehendible visual elements.
Photographs are like the windows of a house. A framed moment shown to the world. I have experience lighting, shooting and editing corporate headshots, events and moments. My photography skills started in high school where I took the class three times and eventually ended up teaching other students. I believe composition can make or break the success of a photograph.
Motion media and video are the furniture in your house; they give function and utility to a business. I lay out storyboards, and then using Adobe AfterEffects or Adobe Animate to bring them to life.
When it comes to the floors of a house, the small details and measurements play a huge role. To a graphic designer, this is technical drawing and illustration. I have experience creating IFUs (instructions for use) and tech sheets, which require several skills: research the product and its use, write and test the steps to use the product, photograph the product, composite the product in use, then draw the composite in line form.
Finally, it’s time to add a front door to this house. This is web, where people can come and go to interact with a business. Whether it’s an email banner for a campaign, a landing page for a product, designing buttons or lists, or just overall UI/UX design I can construct an inviting entrance.
The finishing touches to the house are the decorations. This is how people express themselves and announce to the world what (or who) they love. Designing wedding invitations gives me the opportunity to flex my creativity. I have been happily designing and hand producing wedding invites since 2015. Lead time is around 8 weeks, but I can often make accommodations.
